Summary: Batteries are not succeptable to ripple and noise, so many high power
battery chargers have limited filtering and put out significant 60 or 120 Hz ripple and noise.
Others used pulse charging technology. This causes havoc with systems such as audio systems
that would like a nice, clean voltage. This line of chargers are designed to charge a battery
at high power, but very quietly.
Suggested Applications: Wherever a high power 48
volt battery charger is used, for example in in Audio Displays, Demo & Show Vehicles Marine
& Recreational Vehicles; Battery maintenance & storage, Retail Store Displays,
Industrial Applications, Communications (available in
12V
,
36V
. and
48V
output).
These chargers are the famous APS power supply with a 48V battery
charging circuit built-in. This charge controller allows the APS Power Supply to operate as an
automatic 3-stage smart charger. This gives a sophisticated charger with Bulk,
Absorption, and Float stage charging, increasing the charging capacity of the APS Power Supply
to decrease charge times, insuring proper and safe battery charging and eliminating
over-charge. This intelligent technology monitors the battery at all times.
Ideally suited for the 48V telecommunication systems. The power supplies feature
regulated and filtered outputs which allow for clean power busses without the slightest hint of
noise.
In maintenance mode the charger is left connected to the battery. If the voltage
remains in the long term stage for more than seven days, the charge controller will
automatically deliver a boost charge for a short time, then automatically return to the normal
float stage to prevent sulfation.
Virtually Silent Operation.
This is a switchmode design using frequencies beyond that of human hearing, there is no low
frequency transformer hum. The cooling fan is virtually silent.
The PST-APS-CH 48V battery chargers all feature thermal control circuitry that
engages the fan only when internal temperatures require it (typically 75% of full load). They
have small compact sizes compared to the transformer based power chargers. The switch mode
technology utilized in APS power chargers has 86% efficiency. This superior design results in
cooler operating temperatures and compact size.

Usage Note: Typical AC outlets are 1540VA, 14 amp service. To run the
higher power units you will need higher power service than is typically available in a wall
plug. Please consult competent technical authorities to determine the total load on the circuit
you intend to supply the power with, including other things plugged into the same
circuit.
Maintenance mode: After the 48 volt battery is full the charger goes
into a maintanence mode. In maintenance mode the battery is safely floated at 54.2 volts to
maintain the battery and replace charge lost due to leakage or self discharge. In addition, if
the battery has not received a bulk charge during a seven-day period, the charge controller
will switch the APS Power Supply into a pre-programmed equalization stage to top off the
batteries, dissolving any sulfate layer on the batterys plates and avoiding
stratification of flooded batteries. |
